Ingredients
1 lb beef flank or sirloin, thinly sliced
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp butter
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp soy sauce (optional)
1/4 cup beef broth or water for deglazing
Instructions
1. Slice the beef thinly against the grain and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet and cook onions over medium-low heat for 20–25 minutes until caramelized. Set aside.
3. Turn heat to medium-high, add remaining oil and butter, and sear beef in batches for 2 minutes per side.
4. Return onions to the pan and stir everything together for 2–3 minutes.
5. Deglaze with broth or water, scraping up browned bits to make a light sauce.
6. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Notes
Slice beef thinly for the best texture.
Caramelized onions can be made ahead and stored for up to 3 days.
Add a splash of balsamic vinegar or mustard for a deeper flavor twist.
